Create your own Legacy. Introducing our “Forever Floors,” 2×6 t&g, clear vertical grain flooring, reclaimed from the Sears factory store in San Leandro. The material carries the Weyerhaeuser Lumber Mill’s legendary “4–SQUARE” lumber stamp, a symbol that came to signify the premier douglas fir product in the construction industry. It met Japan’s high standards and instantly became the country’s preferred import grade. Measuring 1-5/8” thick with a full 5″ face, these floors could be refinished numerous times for generations to come.

It’s amazing some retailers are able to sell their flooring as genuine “wood” products. Often made of thin veneer strips on top of plywood, most new wood flooring options have little in common with products of the past. • Many new products are made from glues and other dangerous chemicals that off-gas over time. You’ll find no chemicals in our solid, sustainable, flooring products.

• Short lengths look busy and cheap. Why deal with 1′, 2′ and 3′ increments when you can install long lengths instead. Our usable length average generally pushes 10′ in our sustainable flooring products.

• Wear and tear is inevitable with wood flooring over time. Try refinishing a veneered “wood” floor. You’ll be lucky if you can sand it once without exposing the mystery plywood beneath.

• It always saddens me to see cheap flooring installed in the old craftsman homes in the area. Maintain the integrity of your home! Replace or repair what was there. Many times it was old growth vertical Douglas Fir, one of our stocked items.

Located just off the historic Route 66 highway in Barstow, CA, the First Avenue Bridge, built in 1930, served as a main automotive thoroughfare for close to 100 years. Once a focal point of the railroad industry, it no longer met structural and functional standards and thus needed replacement.

The Reclaimed Redwood Lumber

Salvaged from the bridge’s demolition, The Lumber Baron has acquired approximately 100,000 board feet of this old growth redwood. 10,000 board feet of 3×8 (measuring 2-3/4″ x 7-1/4″), served as the bridge’s bracing. A majority of this material qualifies as an old select structural mill grade. Additionally, the structural posts holding up this massive bridge were either 12×12 (measuring 11-1/4″ x 11-1/4″) or 12×14 (measuring 11-1/4″ x 13-1/4″). Dense, old growth redwood with lengths ranging from 8′ to 29′, we will have 24,000 board feet of this unicorn material. Finally, the joists of the First Ave Bridge were all dense structural 6×15 redwood beams (measuring a full 6″ x a full 15″). Many stamped “DENSE STRUCT” and most free of knots, these exquisite old growth beams run 20′ in length. Over 65,000 board feet of this will be in stock.

The massive size of these incredible beams leads to an array of different usages. With big sizes come big design possibilities. Utilize our brand new, state of the art milling facility to rip custom, clear all heart 1×16 siding or paneling boards. Have a trellis project in the works? We can easily slice the 6×16, 12×12, and 12×14 into any combination of beam sizes. When milled into, the redwood’s brilliant coloring comes to life once again.

Originally harvested from Northern California’s old growth redwood forests, the reclaimed Bay Bridge redwood lumber from these structures is magnificent.
