Project Description
With no forewarning, the state of California deemed Pressure Treated Doug Fir a class one hazardous waste product in early 2020. Soon after the local dumps began rejecting the material. That was enough for us. We immediately made the decision to no longer carry any pressure treated lumber. Although the state eventually eased its designation and stance on the no dumping policy, our decision as made. Our choice came down to what we believe is doing the right thing, both for our customers and the environment. We are aware not everyone will agree and sales of customers who prefer their way of doing things will be lost. However, our hope is most people will support our “stand” to not put anymore pressure treated product on the market. As a very environmentally conscious company, we feel this move falls right in line with our core beliefs. Our forklift fleet will be completely electric by 2026 and half of our delivery fleet already is. Solar panels generate my power then we consume at our flagship Richmond location.
Beautiful, renewable, sustainable, durable, chemical free, and biodegradable, heartwood redwood once again proves itself as an incredible building option. No matter what people try to come up with alternative wise (plastic decking) there is no substitute for real thing.
For those of you worried about the longevity of our heartwood redwood (in theory it holds up equally if not longer then pressure treated fir) we have also started to carry the LifeTime Wood Treatment Product. Used in rot prone areas (base of posts, joists, etc.) the LifeTime Treatement (made with all natural products) acts as another protective barrier that should have our customers forgetting about pressure treated lumber in no time.
